Are They Dupes? Lipstick Edition

I have quite a small makeup collection for a blogger, and somehow accumulated 4 lipsticks that look exactly the same. I don’t know how this happened, but I am here to help you out so you don’t make the same mistake.

I first noticed that my NYX Lip Lingerie in Exotic and Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip in Fick N Frack were dupes about a year ago. I never knew they were dupes because they looked differently on people that I follow on Youtube, so I bought both. I thought it wasn’t a big deal, but I have come to realize I made this mistake two more times. Recently,ย  I realized that my MAC Prolongwear lipliner in Morning Coffee, and my Maybelline Nude Nuance lipstick are dupes as well. All four of these shades are so similar to each other, I am shocked that I allowed this to happen.

To be very specific, all four lipsticks are of different finishes, so there is that. I didn’t just buy four of the same lipstick. They all look the same on my lips, which qualifies them to be to dupes in my book. However, all 4 lipsticks might look completely different on different undertones, and skin tones, than mine. I wear 130 in the Fenty Beauty foundation, and Y225 in MUFE, if that helps you out with the swatches! I do find that the MAC lipliner has a touch more of a purple undertone, but it’s not noticeable on my skin tone. However, people with darker complexions than mine might have this lip liner look more purple compared to the other lipsticks mentioned.

I would recommend the lipliner and the lipstick over the liquid lipsticks. They are more comfortable on the lips, plus the finish looks more flattering. I find the NYX liquid lipstick very drying, and the Colourpop one bleeds. I have found my holy grail liquid lipstick, so the Colourpop and NYX ones are not worth the money for me. One time I wore the Colourpop lipstick, I realized it dried my lips so much, that it was wrinkled and dried up for a few days. It was very strange, and I haven’t worn that lipstick since. I think if you are looking for a drugstore alternative, Nude Nuance is the best buy, plus it has over 4 grams of product. The MAC lip liner is great too if you’re looking for a higher end purchase. The Colourpop and NYX liquid lipsticks are cruelty free if you’re looking for that!

Have you tried any of these lip products? What is your favourite out of the bunch?
