5 Hyped Books I Haven’t Read Yet

Processed with VSCO with hb2 presetBeing on Instagram and Goodreads, I see a lot of books being raved about. Sometimes I’m scrolling through Instagram, and I notice that I’ve seen the same book about 5 times in a row. In a month, I might see the same book 20 times. A lot of these books are incredibly popular with readers, and I have yet to read any of them. I thought about some of the books I see a lot, and thought I would share what hyped books I haven’t read yet, and if I’m willing to do so.

RC_Hyped_Books_I_Havent_Read_2A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara
I am currently reading A Little Life, but I’m not even close to being done right now. This book is by far the one I see most on Instagram. I almost feel like 70% of the users I follow post about this book. I did end up buying it because of the hype. I’m not that far into the book, so I can’t give a review on it, but I might once I’m finished the book!

Turtles All the Way Down by John Green
John Green is by far the most popular author that I see on Instagram, and I understand why. He does have a great appeal to young readers. I know when I was in high school, I really liked reading his books. So for me to have bought his newest books is a bit of nostalgia, and curiosity. I don’t read YA books anymore, so I’m not sure if this book will live up to the hype that I see on Instagram and Goodreads.

The Opposite of Loneliness by Marina Keegan
I have seen this book everywhere since it came out. It has made many “best of” lists in the past few years, and has always drawn by attention. I know the book is about essays, and stories, but I never decided to buy this book yet. I’m not sure if it will actually live up to the hype, or if it would exceed my expectations.

My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante
This is another that book I see everywhere. I think why everyone raves about this book is because it centres around female friendships. I’m all for that sort of content, so I do want to buy it eventually. However, I also seem to pick up other books before this one. I’m not sure why, but I hope that I will eventually get around to buying it.

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
Last year, I watched the movie version of this book, and I wasn’t impressed. I just didn’t like the movie, or the plot. Maybe the book is better, but since I’ve watched the movie, I have no intention of reading the book. This book was everywhere a few years ago, and I can see why it may have been a mind blowing read, but I don’t think I would get into it.

Honourable Mention: 99% of YA Books
Since I don’t really read YA books anymore, it makes sense that almost all YA books are hyped to me. I see a lot of it on Instagram, but I don’t really get excited about reading any of them. YA novels have a lot of the same cliche tropes that I am too old to care about. I’m in my mid-twenties, so sometimes relating to teenager with trivial problems can be hard. I don’t want to read about a 15 year old love triangle anymore. Obviously not all YA books are like this, but I get discouraged that I’ll see another cliche in some of these new ones. One YA book I may eventually buy is The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. I see this book a lot, but I think from the reviews I’ve seen, that it’s not centred around a love triangle. So I may buy this one.

Have you read any of these books? Do you think they live up to the hype? Let me know if any of these books I have to read!

  1. I totally get you! I am on my late… 20s… *Sobs* and I find some YA books so hard to read… Swallow… Tolerate… And almost impossible to burn… I read one last year like that hmm but some other ones are quite good when they deal with more important problems like racism, violence, homophobia… Or mental illness. Like The Hate You Give πŸ™‚ I hope you get to read some of these books, isn’t Green like the same old YA Looking for Alaska kind of book?

    Thank you for sharing! :3

      • Oh no, yes I know he wrote it haha but I have heard that all of his books have the same formula of Alaska but I think this one is the same but backwards xD
